Future Work Spaces

by Paula Strunden & John Cruwys (Soft Bodies)

Brief
For several decades now work has, for many people, become increasingly virtual; we carry out our occupational duties largely in digital space. Yet as a society we are left with a troubling conundrum; we find it difficult to imagine any virtual work-spaces manifested beyond an office in a headset in an office; work today is the most ephemeral and nomadic it has ever been, how can our spaces of work catch-up?

Together with a group of 10 students, we propose a mixed-reality workshop, where the students develop in teams of 2 a physical hand-held object and a speculative virtual work environment.

At the end of the workshop the objects and environments are compiled in a collaborative 3D Unity file to be viewed and explored in Virtual Reality.
